There are 4 ball's parameters in the game: Hook, Length, Power and Condition. The balls perform and react differently on the lane surface, depending on different stats. When you just start playing, you're given lighter balls with less Hook and Length potential. When leveling up, you unlock balls with a heavier weight, more Hook and Length, which perform better and give you more strikes. Play with the ball's stats in Practice and you'll see the difference.
Power
More Power means more weight and more energy. Keeping your ball at a lower Power rating will make it hit like a balloon. A ball leveled up to a Power 10 rating travelling with the same speed will explode pins like a bomb.

Hook
You need to increase your Hook rating for two main things: firstly, your ball will look cool, curving down the lane, just like how the pros bowl on TV. And secondly, you will increase your angle of entry through the pins to maximize your strike potential. But let’s be honest, the pros hook the ball because it looks cool :)

Length
The rating of Length defines how far the ball will go before it begins to hook. The more length, the later the ball begins to curve. A ball with a Length rating 1 will start to hook right after it passes the oil pattern, while a ball with Length rating 10 starts to curve right before the pins.

Condition
The more you use the ball, the worse its condition will be, and that will affect its performance. For example, a ball with a Hook 10 rating will perform similar to a ball with a Hook 5 rating after it loses half of its Condition. The balls do wear down in both One on One and Practice modes unless you own a Gold Card. Gold Card prevents balls from wear and tear. If you see your ball doesn't perform as good as it used to, probably the time to restore it has come.
